Buying Content

Jim, I'm a software developer, not an English major!

Humor aside, the text and content on your site is as important to your overall success as the technical details of what you're building. If you intend to get a share of your traffic from Google's organic search rankings (hint: you do), you will need to publish quality articles on a regular basis. Most of our successful SEO projects have a blog built to the site (usually Wordpress) and most of the rest incorporate some type of big document to orient users and give Google's machine learning system an indication of what you focus on.

To do this activity well, you need market intelligence on what people are searching for (so you can guide your team towards the right content) and some solid writers who can generate the articles you need to built up your site's content and keep publishing fresh updates (both of these are important for ranking). Here are a couple of services we've found useful on our other projects.

SEMrush

SEMRush is a competitor research tool. It can be used to understand what search terms a competitive site ranks for and what the expected volume of traffic per month in those searches looks like. It also features a rank position tracking tool (very handy for seeing trends over time) and an automated SEO audit that identifies areas of your website which should be adjusted to improve your Google rankings. They have several monthly packages. This is our primary tool for monitoring where our websites rank and understanding size of the potential audience for a Google search term. They allow you to run a couple of reports for free each day - good way to get a feel for the product. I highly recommend you check them out.

My Blog Squad

If you're looking for articles and text content but don't have a background in copywriting or journalism, you may want to look at bringing in some help. MyBlogSquad is a good option for folks developing English-speaking audiences. They are experts in identifying relevant topics to bring visitors to your blog and developing content for your site. Everyone on their team is born and raised in the US, so their content is aligned with American audiences.
